PANAJI: The Mormugao Port Trust Pensioners’ Association has sought the intervention of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal to resolve the long-pending grievances of pensioners of the erstwhile Mormugao Port Trust.
Association President S. R. Fadte and General Secretary Digambar Tendulkar met Sonowal in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Naik.
During the meeting, representatives of the association presented their long-standing issues and requested the Union Minister to intervene for their early resolution. The association has been pursuing these matters with the Mormugao Port Authority and other concerned authorities.
According to the association, Sonowal gave a patient hearing to the pensioners’ representatives and subsequently spoke to the Chairperson of the Mormugao Port Authority over the phone. He requested that the grievances raised by the pensioners be examined and appropriate action taken.
The Union Minister also assured the association representatives that their grievances would be addressed at the earliest.
The association expressed hope that Sonowal’s intervention would help expedite the resolution of the pending issues and provide relief to retired employees of the port.
