PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that organic farming is the need of time, but there is also a need to switch back to natural farming to produce pure and healthy food.
“Organic farming, he said, is a need of the time. There is a need to switch back to natural farming to produce pure and healthy food,” said Sawant.
He further said that in the earlier days, people never used fertilizer in farming but made good use of organic manure, which was very conducive to health.
The Chief Minister informed that in some parts of the State, people are still undertaking organic farming and cited the example of boiled rice from Chorao Bardez and exported to America, which he said is a matter of pride.
“Jackfruit from Goa is organic in nature, and the Government has encouraged research and process on Jackfruit,” he added.
Sawant also appealed to Cooperative institutions to venture into collective organic farming to provide good food for the people.
He said this will help encourage cooperative farming and strengthen the Cooperative movement in the State.
