PORVORIM: Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Tuesday inaugurated a new casualty block at the Cortalim Primary health centre in the presence of Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Periera, Quelossim Sarpanch Fransisco Figueredo, Dr Tejam Lotlikar, Nilesh Dessai Chief Manufacturing officer and Unit Head. Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) Goa Unit and others
Speaking to the media, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas said that he had also proposed a 20 bedded hospital at the Cortalim PHC
“We are inaugurating the new casualty block at the Cortalim PHC and we are thankful to the PPL who have taken up this work under CSR. This new facility will help the doctors and nurses to take better care of the patients. Many of the people here would earlier be sceptical to come to this PHC because it was very small and had space constraints but we have managed to expand the health centre in phases and now it is being visited by Verna Industrial estates and all people from entire Cortalim Constituency. Besides this, we have people arriving from adjoining Lotoulim from other constituencies,” he said.
He said that with a rise in patients, we had an issue with the casualty block which was very small but now we have a new block giving space to admit and treat the patients.
“I have also proposed a 20 bedded hospital at this PHC and even raised the issue in the assembly and personally spoken to the Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane. This 20 bedded hospital here would allow us to cater to many people here, especially during accidents or health emergencies at night. Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane has assured me to arrive here for an inspection and take up the proposal which will be extremely beneficial to the people of Cortalim and surrounding areas,” said Vas.
Nilesh Dessai Chief Manufacturing Officer and Unit Head. PPL Goa Unit said that the construction of the new casualty block at Cortalim PHC was taken at the cost of Rs 7.5 lakhs
“This has been taken under CSR and this has been our principle to cater to the needs of health and education. We have learnt a lot of things during the Covid pandemic on how people faced difficulties during the pandemic and how doctors and administration struggled for the upkeep and welfare of human health. We got a lot of support from the health department and administration to continue operations during a pandemic and this is our way of giving back to society,” he said.
He added, “We had also taken a CSR Activity at Chicalim Sub District Hospital and this is our second CSR at Cortalim PHC in the health sector. We are also trying to take up major projects in education along with the health sector under CSR. We will also have a meeting to discuss the CSR projects of the next year and some important projects in health and education are in the pipeline ” said Desai.
Dr Tejan Lotlikar of Cortalim PHC said that there was a significant rise in patients post Covid pandemic
