PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday confirmed that the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has submitted its report regarding the Mhadei river water diversion issue, which remains a matter of serious concern for Goa.
“The NIO has submitted the report. I will study it and respond later,” Sawant told reporters, without divulging any further details on the contents of the report.
The NIO’s findings are expected to be critical in assessing the environmental and ecological impact of Karnataka’s plans to divert water from the Mhadei river basin.
The issue has long been a point of contention between Goa and Karnataka, with successive governments in Goa opposing any move that could threaten the state’s water security and forest ecosystems.
