New Delhi: India has stated that there is currently no proposal to increase petrol and diesel prices, aiming to ease public concerns as global energy markets remain volatile due to tensions in West Asia.
At an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that fuel supplies are stable and prices remain unchanged. She urged consumers not to panic, emphasising that essential fuels, including LPG and diesel, are available in sufficient quantities.
Officials acknowledged that imports of crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas and piped natural gas have been affected by the ongoing regional situation. However, the government has taken steps to minimise disruptions and ensure continuity of supply across key sectors.
Authorities confirmed that domestic LPG, PNG and compressed natural gas supplies for transportation are being maintained at full capacity. While commercial LPG availability has faced some constraints, it has been restored to around 70 percent, with priority given to critical services such as hospitals and educational institutions.
Essential industries, including pharmaceuticals, steel, agriculture and seed production, are also receiving priority allocation to prevent supply shortages. Additionally, the supply of smaller 5 kilogram LPG cylinders, widely used by migrant workers, has been significantly increased to support vulnerable groups.
The assurance comes as global oil prices fluctuate amid geopolitical uncertainty in major energy-producing regions. Officials said the situation is under close monitoring to maintain supply stability and shield domestic consumers from immediate price impacts.
