VERNA: Members and citizens of Quelossim-Cortalim Communidade submitted a memorandum to the Verna police station requesting to register an offence against three former Communidade members for threatening the United Forum of Cortalim-Quelossim members of dire consequences if the RTIs filed are not taken back.
On Friday, a few members, including Pobre Vas of United Forum of Cortalim-Quelossim, submitted a memorandum to the Verna police inspector requesting him to register FIR against three former Communidade members for reportedly threatening the existing Communidade members of dire consequences if the filed RTIs and LAQs related to the Communidade land is not taken back.
A memorandum signed by several Communidade members and citizens states that the citizens came together with a common intention to save their forefather’s land, which is governed under the Communidade code.
It further states that they have been keen on filing RTIs with various govt Departments for the past several years, and through these RTls, it has been revealed that some.
Communidade land has been sold to Indian and foreign nationals illegally.
Further, the memorandum says that originally the land was used for cultivation and plantation purposes. The Forum’s sole purpose is to keep the land for posterity and the village community.
The memorandum also states that the forum members are being threatened by some former Communidade members who are allegedly involved in selling Communidade land to others.
On 20th July 2022, three persons reportedly entered the office premises of Pobre Vaz and started abusing and threatening him with dire consequences if the RTIs and LAQs filed by him were not taken back. Another Communidade member Vincent Pereira was also threatened by some miscreants.
The Forum had demanded that the Verna police should register FIR against three individuals for threatening and criminally trespassing into the private properties of the complainants. The Forum has submitted the memorandum to the other concerned authorities and has given 48 hours ultimatum to register the FIR or else the citizens have warned to gherao the Verna police station.
