MARGAO: Nearly half of the identified Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) in South Goa and Kushavati districts are yet to be registered under the Solid Waste Management Rules, prompting authorities to step up awareness and enforcement efforts.
An orientation programme on Solid Waste Management was organised by the Special Cell for officers from South Goa and Kushavati districts. The session was conducted by Shri Siddhant Desai, Junior Engineer, Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), who briefed officials on waste segregation, scientific disposal methods and the Board’s guidelines for effective solid waste management.
The programme was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Mamlatdars, Block Development Officers (BDOs) and other officials. It aimed to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and improve the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules across both districts.
During the review, GSPCB informed that 202 Bulk Waste Generators have been identified in South Goa and 16 in Kushavati district. However, only 100 BWGs had been registered as of July 25, 2026, highlighting the need for greater compliance and faster registration of bulk waste generators.
Officials also discussed measures to enhance scientific waste management practices and improve adherence to the prescribed rules across the two districts.
