PONDA: Huge open pits dug by farmers in fallow fields located near Shantadurga Temple Kavlem pose a risk to lives.
Today locals rescued 8 of the cattle fallen in the open pit filled with water.
Animal Rescue Squad Member Sanket Narvekar said around three to four open pits were dug by farmers five to six months ago mainly to cultivate vegetables in agricultural land at Kavlem.
However, farmers did not cultivate any vegetable or paddy crops, but the open pits dug by them for irrigation purposes were filled up with water, and in the past four months, locals rescued 8 cattle fallen in open pits at Kavlem with the help of Ponda Fire Personnel.
