CANACONA – Over a hundred houses will be built for the poor and needy people of Canacona under the ‘Shram-Dham’, a scheme conceived by Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
One house is already built in record time with the contribution made by the people and made – over to a family previously living in a makeshift residence at Badde-Khotigao. There is a concrete plant to build 100 houses for the poor and needy people of Canacona, out of which 14 more homes will be constructed within a short period.
According to Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar, 6 out of 14 houses will be built for the poor people from Municipal Areas of Canacona, Two (2) in Rajbhag-Tarir, Three (3) in Palolem and One (1) house in Kindlem.
While Tawadkar has already made an open appeal to generously donate just a rupee and dedicate a one-day labour/work for the construction of these houses, Ramakant Naik Gawkar, as a councillor of the commercial hub of Chawadi Ward and the Chairperson of Municipal Council has appealed to the donors to provide their financial support to build these houses for the poor.
On Monday, Naikgaonkar held an awareness meeting of the Chawadi residents at Xeller to inform them about the ‘Shram-Dham’ concept. Nagesh Komarpant, an OSD with the Speakers Office, explained the concept’s details and announced that a mega ceremony would be held on Saturday evening to launch the ‘Shram-Dham scheme, where Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will lay the foundation stone of a house.
Ex-CMC Dy Chairperson Dilip Kenkare also participated in the discussion, while prominent residents such as Babesh Borkar, Subhash Komarpant, Nabhi Khan, Shankar Naik, Perpetua Jacques, Sanjay Komarpant, Salim Sarad were some of the participants.
