Panaji: A Fast Track Special Court in Panaji has rejected the bail applications of two accused in an alleged gangrape case reported from beneath the Zuari bridge last month, citing the gravity of the charges and the early stage of the investigation.
The court observed that the victim’s testimony is yet to be recorded and held that granting bail at this stage would be inappropriate.
According to the complaint, a 21-year-old woman alleged that she was befriended at Bambolim beach before being taken to a secluded location, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted after being made to consume alcohol.
The court also took note of medical findings indicating injuries and said that further evidence, including DNA reports, is still awaited.
The case remains under investigation.
