A low-pressure area is located over the southeast Bay of Bengal and it is expected to bring heavy rain of over 100 mm across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Thursday.
“Light to Moderate rain with short intense spells are very likely at a few places over North Goa & South Goa district during the next 3-4 hours.Rain is very likely to be accompanied with thunder/lightning and winds of speed around 40 kmph,” the IMD said
The IMD has also urged to avoid open areas/fields, finding shelter under trees, or other tall structures while lightning is taking place.
This low-pressure area is likely to develop into a depression by Thursday and further intensify to cyclonic storm by Friday while moving west-northwestward to northwestward over the Bay of Bengal. The expected system will reach near north Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coasts around Saturday morning and turn northeastward to track over East India into Northeast India through early next week.
