BICHOLIM: The ongoing protest against the proposed project by the House of Abhinandan Lodha has gained further momentum, with more members of the Carapur-Sarvan Panchayat extending their support to the agitating villagers.
Former sarpanch Dattaprasad Karkhande, along with panch members Gnyaneshwar Bale, Sukanti Karkhande and Ujwala Kavalekar, have publicly backed the protest, taking the total number of panchayat members supporting the agitation to four.
The protest, which has entered its 19th day, is being led by local villagers opposing the large-scale project in the area.
The agitation has also drawn political support, with leaders including Viresh Borkar of the Revolutionary Goans Party and Yuri Alemao of the Congress extending their backing, along with a significant number of citizens.
With growing support from elected representatives, the movement has gathered strength at the grassroots level. Meanwhile, a special gram sabha regarding the Lodha project has been scheduled for Saturday following demands from villagers.
A large turnout is expected, and protestors have expressed confidence that their concerns will receive strong backing during the meeting.
The increasing support from panchayat members has boosted the morale of the villagers, who remain firm in their opposition to the project and hopeful of a favourable outcome at the upcoming gram sabha.
