PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that Surrogacy act will stipulate who can access assisted reproductive technologies and procedures such as in vitro fertilization and surrogacy.
Rane chaired the meeting on Surrogacy Act in the presence of Secretary Health Arun Kumar Mishra, Dr. Geeta Kakodkar (DHS-Director), Dr. Kedar Phadte, Dr. Muriel Cardoso and others.
“The surrogacy act will stipulate who can access assisted reproductive technologies and procedures such as in vitro fertilization and surrogacy, the conditions under which gamete donation and surrogacy can take place, and specify requirements for clinics to operate,” said Rane
He further said that they shall be forming a committee that will scrutinize all the cases, examine the facilities, and also provide the necessary approvals.
“The government of India is closely monitoring implementation of the surrogacy act in each state,” he added
Meanwhile, Rane said that the committee will be presenting the checklist on 20th July and a review meeting will be held by the end of the month to evaluate the progress.
