VASCO: Parents of the school children express worry about the safety of their children for attending offline classes by giving an undertaking to the schools. A group of parents have written to the Education Director asking him to give an affidavit assuring the safety of their children from Covid19 infection.
A group of parents from Vasco addressed a letter to the Director of Education asking the department to take full responsibility for the safety of the children attending offline classes. Parents have also demanded that the education department give an affidavit assuring the students’ utmost safety, or else the online classes should be resumed.
In a letter issued by the parents to the Education Director, it has stated.
“As per your department, Circular schools have to be notified by the Govt. to restart offline classes even though the Covid pandemic exists”.
“We parents were surprised when on 20 Feb. 2022 the Headmaster of the school posted a what’s app message on the school group informing about the commencement of classes from 21 Feb. 2022. Also, the same person has asked all parents to give a consent letter stating that the parents are sending kids to school and it is their sole responsibility if anything untoward sickness happens to their child,” he said.
The letter further stated, “We parents object and condemn this concerned letter. When the Govt. wants to start classes, the concerned department must take responsibility for the child’s health”.
“Therefore, we parents condemn and demand the Education Department furnish an Affidavit stating that they will take full responsibility for our children’s in case of Covid outbreak-related complications and also if death occurs, they(department) will be liable to be prosecuted in the honourable court of law” the letter stated.
Further on a concluding note, the parents have clearly stated that they will not give any responsibility letter. Kindly take note of the same and reply urgently. Also, online classes should be resumed for students if you do not take responsibility”.
Later, when contacted Asst Headmaster of a private school from Vasco he stated that the school follows all the Covid19 related SOPs for the safety of the students when they are in the school. It is the responsibility of the parents and the teachers to keep their children safe. We also had a meeting with the teachers and PTA executive members. We had also informed the parents in the class WhatsApp groups about the reopening of the schools. Although we had issued an undertaking form to the parents to permit their children to school, the undertaking was not made mandatory”.
When asked about the response from the students, he said the response from the students was good, and most of them were happy to come back to school.
