VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, on Thursday morning, inspected the works on the tarring of the road at the KTC Bus stand.
Salkar speaking to reporters after the inspection, said that the works on tarring of roads inside the Depot will also be taken up simultaneously.
“We have seen how the people of Vasco had to face inconvenience for many years due to the Kadamba Bus stand issue. The project plans will come by this month’s end, and the works on the modern Kadamba Bus stand may begin in a year or two with all financial and administrative approvals,” he said.
However, he added, the people were facing a lot of inconveniences because the roads leading to and from the bus stand were all dusty, and there were potholes as well.
“We then decided that till the bus stand project does not take shape, we have to ensure that people do not face inconvenience, and we decided to take the works of tarring of internal roads in the bus stand,” Salkar.
He said as we were taking up the works, which are almost 90 per cent complete, the depot staff said that the roads inside the depo are full of dust and they also face a lot of issues that spoil their health and the dust also falls on their food.
“We then requested the Government for additional budget to do the tarring of the internal road inside the Depot, and we were asked to prepare the estimates. We are thankful to PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, who immediately sanctioned the works. The works will now be continued, and the entire Kadamba Bus stand area roads will be tarred, including the road inside the Depot, within the next ten days. I am also thankful to Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, who has been very instrumental in helping us with the bus stand project,” he stated.
Salkar said the works of tarring of Kadamba Bus stand were taken up at the cost of Rs 1.5 crores, but now the cost of the works has gone to Rs 2 crores after the works of the internal roads inside the Depot have also been included.
“The passengers will now get a smooth ride, and there will be no issues of dust pollution at the Kadamba Bus stand,” said Salkar.
