Panaji: While the state government decided to celebrate the 59th Liberation Day with a extravagant super-spender function at Dayanand Bandodkar Stadium, the Progressive Front of Goa took the other way round by celebrating it by felicitating the freedom fighters, who were the actual heroes for the liberation.
“Some moments of life are very sentimental and memorable and 19th December 2020 indeed turned out to be one of them for us. While the Government was busy in its uncalled extravagant tamasha, we at Progressive Front Of Goa (PFG) did something special to commemorate 60th liberation day celebration,” said PFG convenor Mahesh Mhambrey.
The PFG team felicitated brave freedom fighters Prabhakarbab Sinari, Gurunathbab Kelekar, Nagueshbab Karmali and Smt. Sharadatai Sawaikar by calling on them at their residence.
A shawl and shriphal was offerred to each of them by PFG convenors and these stalwarts were extremely touched with the warmth, love and respect showered on them and we were equally touched with their sentimental words and blessings.
“It was the duty of this Govt. and being the head of the state our Chief Minister and his team to call on them and felicitate them for their selfless service which liberated Goa from the clutches of Portuguese. If it was not for them and several other freedom fighters we would have been still slaves of the Portuguese,” said Mhambrey.
He said it was utter shame that instead of felicitating them our Government which claims to be working towards the so called development of Goa has thought to only focus on some fun filled extravaganza at the cost of the exchequer and especially at a time when the state coffers are empty and when the world is reeling under unprecedented Covid19 crisis.
“Our gesture was not for any political mileage or to mock at the Government but to remind Goenkars and the government that we should never forget our roots and those who have contributed to our state selflessly,” he stated.
