PIRNA: A group of pilgrims from Pirna in North Goa, undertaking the traditional Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage to Pandharpur, allegedly fell victim to a theft near Miraj in Maharashtra, losing cash, mobile phones and other belongings valued at nearly ₹1.20 lakh.
The devotees, travelling under the banner of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Tukaram Warkari Mandal, had begun their foot pilgrimage on July 11 and were on their way to the holy town of Pandharpur.
According to information available, the group stopped for the night near the Miraj highway on Sunday. After completing dinner, the pilgrims went to sleep. During the night, unidentified persons allegedly stole several bags containing money, mobile phones and other personal items before escaping.
The theft was discovered the following morning, following which local residents came forward to help the pilgrims and informed the police.
A complaint has been registered at the Miraj Police Station, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
Following the theft, pilgrim Chandrakant Gawande appealed to fellow warkaris to remain cautious and keep a close watch on their valuables while travelling.
Despite the incident, the devotees continued their onward journey to Pandharpur to participate in the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage.
