MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the state government is yet to receive an official confirmation on the appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the Mopa International Airport.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a training program for medical officers on cancer awareness and prevention.
“As of now, the tentative date for Mopa Airport inauguration is December 11, but State government is yet to receive an official confirmation on the appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the Mopa International Airport,’ said Sawant.
He further said that preparations are on to get the airport ready before the inauguration, and GMR is working on this.
“GMR, state government and Civil Aviation are working together to put things in place before the inauguration,” he added.
Sawant said that till there is an official confirmation from PMO, we cannot say that date is final, and the final date will be officially given to the media.
GMR Goa International Airport Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited, is developing the greenfield airport at Mopa under a public-private partnership model on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis.
The airport is being constructed in four phases. After the inauguration of the first phase, Mopa airport will be able to handle 4.4 million passengers annually. This is expected to increase to 13.1 million by the completion of the fifth phase.
