PORVORIM: Goa’s ₹641-crore, 5.15-km six-lane Porvorim-Guirim Elevated Corridor on NH-66 is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 10, 2026, by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
PWD Minister Digambar Kamat recently met Gadkari in New Delhi and invited him to inaugurate the newly constructed elevated corridor. Gadkari accepted the invitation, setting the stage for the formal opening of the long-awaited project.
The elevated corridor has been constructed along the busy NH-66 stretch through Porvorim and is aimed at eliminating chronic traffic bottlenecks that have affected daily commuters and motorists travelling towards North Goa.
The 5.15-km corridor is six lanes wide and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow through Porvorim while strengthening connectivity between Panaji and North Goa.
The project has an estimated cost of ₹641 crore and is being positioned as a major upgrade to Goa’s road infrastructure. After years of construction-related disruptions and traffic diversions, commuters are hoping the opening of the corridor will bring much-needed relief.
Besides improving traffic movement, the project also incorporates beautification and public-space initiatives. Plans include landscaping around more than 80 pillars, along with recreational and public spaces beneath the elevated structure.
The under-bridge areas are expected to be developed into usable public spaces, adding a civic and aesthetic dimension to the infrastructure project.
The September 10 inauguration is therefore expected to mark an important milestone for Porvorim and North Goa, with the elevated corridor likely to play a key role in reducing congestion and improving the overall commuting experience along the NH-66 corridor.
