Porvorim/Mapusa: Residents of Porvorim staged a protest at the Mapusa Police Station, alleging the operation of an illegal dog shelter in their locality and demanding the immediate rescue of a pet dog named ‘Brownie’.
According to residents, the protest was triggered by concerns over the condition and legality of the shelter, with locals claiming that several dogs are being kept in an improper environment. They further alleged that Brownie, a pet dog from the area, is currently at the facility and needs to be rescued.
Protesters gathered at the police station seeking swift intervention from authorities, urging them to inspect the premises and take necessary action if any violations are found. They also raised broader concerns about animal welfare and the need for proper regulation of such shelters.
Police officials acknowledged the complaints and assured residents that the matter would be looked into as per legal provisions. Authorities are expected to verify the allegations and take appropriate steps based on their findings.
The incident has highlighted growing tensions over unregulated animal shelters and the need for clear guidelines to ensure both public safety and the welfare of animals.
