PORVORIM: The Town Square Project in Porvorim is expected to be completed and opened to the public by August, Tourism and Information Technology Minister Rohan Ashok Khaunte said following a review meeting held to assess the progress of the flagship development.
Khaunte stated that the centrally funded project remains a priority initiative and is being executed with a target completion date of August 15. The review meeting examined various aspects related to the project’s completion, including road redevelopment, traffic management and coordination among multiple government departments.
As part of the Town Square development, adjoining service roads and parallel stretches will also undergo redevelopment and beautification to complement the overall infrastructure upgrade.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of works connected to the National Highway project in the area. Officials discussed the status of road construction, drainage systems, culverts and cross-drains. While most of the critical works have already been completed, the remaining components are being expedited by the respective contractors.
Khaunte said special emphasis was placed on improving traffic flow and opening alternate routes, including the road leading towards Mapusa, to reduce congestion and ensure smoother vehicular movement in the Porvorim corridor.
Issues related to service roads, elevated pathways, traffic bottlenecks and pending hot-mix surfacing works were also discussed. Concerned departments were directed to coordinate closely and implement suitable measures to address these challenges.
Officials from the Tourism Department, Public Works Department, National Highways Authority, Sewerage, Electricity and Water Supply Departments participated in the review process to ensure seamless execution of the project.
The Minister stressed the importance of timely planning and implementation, particularly during the monsoon season. He acknowledged that adverse weather conditions could pose challenges but said all departments have been instructed to work in coordination to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
