PONDA: Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar appreciating the hard work of linemen, said they are the most important part of the Power Department.
“While providing his service in repairing and restoring power supply, there is always a risk to his life. Several linemen have been working on a contract basis for several years,” he said.
He said considering their contribution, these contract worker linemen will be given job security and existing insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh will be extended to Rs 15 to 25 lakh to linemen and assistant linemen.
He was speaking as chief guest at a function organized at Curti Power Sub Station to felicitate linemen on the occasion of the National Linemen Day Celebration.
101 linemen and assistant linemen were felicitated on occasion.
Meanwhile, Electricity Employees Union is demanding the regularisation of services of 323 line helpers who have been working with the power department on a contract basis for the past 10- 15 years.
Some of them have been working for 20 years with their contract renewed every year.
Most of them have crossed the age limit for recruitment, and therefore they want relaxation in age limit. They should be recruited on a priority basis, union said.
