Amidst opposition from the political opponents, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today said that “proud nationalists” will never oppose to the celebration scheduled to mark the 60th year of Goa’s liberation from the Portuguese rule.
Sawant today held a detail press briefing on the upcoming visit of President of India Ram Nath Kovind on December 19, wherein he will launch the year long celebration event.
“President of India attending Goa liberation day fucntion is proud movement for goans. Proud nationalist will never oppose it,” Sawant said.
“Nobody should write letter to President of India saying don’t come. If somebody wrote such letters than they should write him again and welcome him,” the Chief Minister said taking dig at GFP president Vijai Sardesai, who had recently written to the President of India not to come to Goa.
Further Sawant also said that government has asked for Rs 100cr from Central Government not for President of India visit but to hold year long celebration including restoration of some historic sites and monuments.
Sawant informed that President will be arriving on December 19 at 1.05pm at Dabolim INS Hansa and from there via a helicopter will come at Goa University ground.
President of India will attend 5.40 event at Azad Maidan and later at 6.00pm at DB ground. During the event, several cultural programme will be held.
President will stay at Raj Bhavan.
