CORTALIM: Acute water shortage issue in some parts of Cortalim village to be solved soon. PWD(water supply) officer informed that the new water supply pipeline would be laid down to improve the water supply pressure, resulting in insufficient supply to all elevated areas.
Locals of Cortalim village areas from Pajentar, Thana, and near Ferry warf have been suffering from acute water shortages. In the past, locals, on multiple occasions confronted the PWD(water supply) section officials on the low water pressure and critical water supply issue. Villagers had questioned officers about when the old water supply has passed through the Cortalim, why they are deprived of sufficient water supply, and how the neighboring village of Agassaim is getting proper water supply.
When contacted, Antonio Fernandes, panch of Cortalim, said that the PWD officers promised us that they would solve the water supply issue from Pajentar, Thana, and other elevated areas where the locals face the problem of water supply.
He further added that the existing water supply pipeline is old, and it tend to burst multiple times when the pressure of water flow increases. Therefore we had requested and written an application to the PWD department to put a new pipeline to sustain the water pressure. So far, no new channel has been laid down to improve the water flow in our village,” Fernandes added.
Later, when contacted PWD water supply section Assistant Engineer Naresh Painginkar, he told Goemkarponn that the proposal for the new water supply pipeline was sent long back to the Executive Engineer. The work order has been issued, and the tendering work is pending due to the model code of conduct. After the Code of Conduct, the new pipeline will be placed.
