PANAJI: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has announced an extension of the ration distribution cycle under the AePDS system from April 22 to April 26, following technical issues with fingerprint authentication.
According to Director Jayant G. Tari, the problem has arisen due to the ongoing transition of biometric systems in line with guidelines issued by Unique Identification Authority of India.
In the meantime, authorities have been distributing foodgrains using alternative methods such as iris scanning and OTP-based verification. However, limited infrastructure and operational constraints have slowed down the process in several locations.
To ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive their entitled ration without inconvenience, the department has decided to extend the distribution period by four days.
Officials have urged beneficiaries to make use of the extended timeline and cooperate with the revised authentication methods during this transition phase.
