MARGAO: Colva Police have registered a theft case against a restaurant employee for allegedly stealing ₹60,000 that had been kept aside for payment of staff salaries at a restaurant in Benaulim.
According to the complaint filed by Orville Francis Andrade (42), a resident of Fatorda, the accused, Ankit Gupta (39), a native of Jammu and Kashmir, was employed as a utility staff member at the restaurant.
Police said that the alleged theft took place on August 6, 2026, at around 12.07 pm, when the accused reportedly removed ₹60,000 from the cash box at Kodi Restaurant in Benaulim. The money had allegedly been kept aside for disbursing employees’ salaries.
Based on the complaint, Colva Police registered Crime No. 61/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with theft by an employee.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
