VALPOI: At a time when the government is struggling to create infrastructure for government departments and employees, there are several structures in Sattari, which remain unused and are in dilapidated conditions.
If the government had taken care of these buildings from time to time and repaired them, they would have been used for various government purposes.
The repair of these buildings has been completely neglected, which has resulted in huge losses.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has ordered officials to submit a report on the unused buildings.
Importantly, in the Honda Panchayat area of Sattari taluka, a well-equipped complex was constructed by the Honda Panchayat at the cost of lakhs of rupees. It was a revenue-generating project for Honda panchayat. However, at present, the condition of this building is completely dilapidated.
From time to time, had the repairs been made, the building would not be in the state it is today.
The project was taken up by Honda Panchayat with government funds. For the last nearly twenty years, many shops have been operating on the ground floor of the building.
But the shopkeepers also complain that there is a lot of water leakage.
Interestingly, this building also housed school classes on the first floor, but with the dilapidated condition of the building and considering the risk to the lives of students, the classes were suspended.
Honda Panchayat in Sattari taluka is considered to be very rich in terms of revenue.
However, despite the excellent revenue received, the panchayat failed to maintain the building.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Honda Panchayat Sarpanch Atmaram Gaonkar said they have submitted the proposal of repairs of the Directorate of Panchayat.
“The panchayat does not have the amount so far for repair, but if the government approves the amount, it will be repaired on priority,” he said.
He said that the building should have been repaired a long time ago, and it is due to the neglect the present state is reached.
Gaonkar said that if the building is not repaired immediately in the next two years, the possibility of the building collapsing at any moment cannot be ruled out.
“There are a number of shops on the ground floor of the building, and there is a constant flow of citizens in this area. This makes the building more dangerous for citizens,” he said.
