PANAJI: In a strongly worded statement that adds fuel to the ongoing political battle over the Mhadei river dispute, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Wednesday accused both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress of consistently betraying Goa’s interests.
The party has demanded an immediate site inspection at the controversial Kalsa-Bandura project in neighbouring Karnataka, warning that continued inaction could have devastating consequences for the state, which is already facing a looming water scarcity.
RGP Chief Manoj Parab said the Mhadei issue has exposed the true character of both national parties, accusing them of prioritizing political interests over the welfare of Goans.
“Both BJP and Congress have become dealers of Mhadei,” Parab said. “These parties, which claim to represent the people of Goa, have instead bartered away our lifeline for political gain. The Mhadei river is not just a river—it is Goa’s identity, its ecology, and its future. What is stopping the BJP government from ordering a site inspection at Kalsa-Bandura if it claims to be protecting Goa’s interests?”
Environmentalists, activists, and opposition leaders have raised alarms over the years, but RGP’s fresh salvo reflects growing public frustration amid perceived inaction by the current administration.
RGP MLA Viresh Borkar echoed Parab’s sentiment and warned that the state is already beginning to experience the effects of the government’s failure to act.
“Both BJP and Congress are out to finish Goa,” Borkar charged. “The BJP government in Goa has utterly failed to protect Mhadei. We are already facing water scarcity in several parts of the state, and this will only worsen if the government does not wake up and take strong, visible action. We are demanding a site inspection at Kalsa-Bandura to assess the ground reality and expose what is truly happening on the other side of the border.”
Borkar added that the people of Goa will not forgive those who remain silent while the state’s future is jeopardized.
The party has also demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant break his silence and lead a delegation to the project site immediately.
