PANAJI: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has accused Revolutionary Goans President Manoj Parab of attempting to deceive the public by claiming that Parab went to Anjuna on Monday to argue on the POGO bill rather than to address the problem of illegal constructions.
During a meeting that happened on Monday during the Anjuna Bandh, Parab and Lobo got into a heated argument that revealed some difficult issues related to land rights and legislative matters in Goa.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji after the tense encounter, Lobo expressed his worries about the attention being diverted from important problems that the area is facing.
“Elections are approaching. Tukaram (Manoj) Parab attended the Anjuna Bandh meeting, but instead of offering a solution, he engaged in a dispute over the POGO bill. Lobo said, implying at the deceptive strategies used by some, “I didn’t want to argue with him on that so I kept quiet.”
Lobo reaffirmed that Goa and the rest of India are inextricably linked.
He emphasized his commitment to respecting constitutional principles by stating, “Goa is a part of India and Tukaram is trying to fool people, POGO bill is unconstitutional.”
As Lobo turned his focus to the divisive topic of land ownership, he questioned the storyline surrounding the sale of paddy fields to non-Goans.
“CM Sawant has already introduced a bill prohibiting the sale of paddy fields to non-Goans. Isn’t that what he desired, then why is he (Parab) staying silent on that? Lobo questioned, emphasizing the necessity of accountability and clarity in governance.
Lobo asserted that everyone has the fundamental right to own property and emphasized the need for a sensible approach to land ownership.
