PANAJI: The 18-member State Road Safety Council, which was reconstituted to offer recommendations on road safety, has been notified by the State government.
Incidentally, the notification coincides with the State’s alarming accident rate as well as the recent drunk driving incident in Verna IDC that left four people dead and four others critically injured.
Leading representatives from the Police, Transport, Public Works, Education, Health, Tourism, Pollution Control Board, Environment, Panchayats, and Municipal Administration are on the Committee, which is chaired by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho. Road safety advocate Roland Martins is also a member of the committee.
In accordance with the notification, the council will also provide advice on any topic related to organizing and coordinating road transport industry policies, procedures, and safety standards.
“Develop and suggest road safety initiatives for State Road Safety Organizations and other State agencies responsible for road transportation to put into action. Director of Transportation Pravimal Abhishek’s directive states, “Suggest areas for research and development so as to improve safety aspects in the road transport sector, including maintenance of statistics of road accidents and their analysis.”
