Panaji:
Against the run of play, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pulled up a shocking winning 31seats out of 49 in the Zilla Parishad polls, which was billed to be a cliff but turned out to be a one-sided affair.
While the BJP has so far won 31 seats, the Independents secured 7 seats, the Congress had yet another dismal show with just five seats and the MGP claiming two seats.
At the time of posting the results of St Lawrence, Torxem and Navelim consistency were yet to be announced.
Thus, the BJP has easily formed the ZIlla Parishads in both South and North Goa.
The elections were also billed to the litmus test for the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who was in the eye of storm over several issues including the three linear projects in Mollem, Mhadei, unemployment and so on. The CM won the test with flying colours.
The chief minister proved his mettle with the thumping win so much so that his party also shocked the opponents in Davorlim and Guirdolim, which were the epicenter of the protests against double tracking and other projects.
“I humbly bow down before the people of Goa for the trust they have reposed onto the Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the Govt of Goa working under my leadership. Let us shape a glorious and Swayampurna (Self Reliant) Goa by taking ahead the same trust and confidence!” Tweets CM Pramod Sawant.
The AAM Aadmi Party also opened its account in Goa with a win in the Benaulim constituency.
