SANCOALE: The long-awaited elections to fill the vacant posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch in the Sancoale Village Panchayat will be held on May 12, 2026, following an official notification issued by the Directorate of Panchayats.
As per the order dated May 4, the election process will be conducted under the supervision of presiding officer Nicolas Quadros, with contingency arrangements in place if required. The panchayat falls under Mormugao taluka.
The announcement comes just a day before a petition related to the delay in holding these elections is scheduled to be heard by the High Court. The plea, filed by RTI activist Narayan Naik, had raised concerns over the prolonged vacancies in the panchayat’s top posts and sought judicial intervention to expedite the process.
With the election date now confirmed, the administration has effectively responded to the concerns highlighted in the petition. The timing of the order has also attracted attention, given its proximity to the court hearing where the delay issue was to be examined.
The upcoming election is expected to bring closure to the leadership gap in the Sancoale Village Panchayat, restoring normal administrative functioning after an extended period of uncertainty.
