MARGAO: SCC Lotoulim secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over United Boys of Ambaulim to enter into the semifinals of the 23rd edition of Bro.Eulalia Vas Memorial football tournament Org by Don Bosco oratory Fatorda at their ground on Thursday.
It was a shocking exit for United Boys of Ambaulim as they were leading by two goals till the 50th minute of play and lost the match in the last quarter of the game.
The first goal came in the 20th minute through Stephen Fernandes and Lowrito Fernandes doubled the lead for UB Ambaulim in the 32nd minute of play.
The turning point of the match came in the 51st minute of play when UB Ambaulim’s defender brought down an SCC botulism player in the danger area and Referee Mario Rebello blew the whistle and pointed the finger to the penalty spot. The penalty kick was well converted by Flager Fernandes and then scored board read 2-1.
In the 54th minute of play a wrong tackle by an Ambaulim player at the half line and a free kick was awarded which was taken by Flager Fernandes due to a misunderstanding the ball dropped in front of the goalkeeper and lend in the goal to level the score 2-2.
The all-important goal came in the 56th minute of play when a corner kick taken by SCC botulism by Darren Gomes and Austin Fernandes jumped high and took a beautiful header that directly went into the net This goal was turned out to be a match-winning goal.
The winners SCC Lotoulim will meet Navelim Sporting Club in the semifinals on 9th November 2024
Flager Fernandes of SCC Lotoulim was awarded man of the match by Santan Colaco Member of DBO Fatorda.
