PONDA: After RK Scrapyard at Dhavlim engulfed in fire at 12.30 pm the traffic on NH was blocked for almost 24 hours.
Though Fire Personnel used several tankers to bring control however the fire still continues at Scrapyard due to which NH road at Dhavlim – Farmagudi on Panjim- Ponda – Margao road has been shut down for traffic for smooth operations of Fire Personnel.
Commuters , locals were irked to see the Highway was blocked for 24 hours diverting traffic through Bethora bypass.
Though no traffic congestion commuters were forced to take extra 8 km for their up and down journey on this route. Some travelled through Wadi Talavalim road and trapped in traffic congestion as roads are dug for power cabling.
Locals said how government is permitting such a scrapyards on highway who are operating without leaving any access for water tankers to douze fire. The compound walls too are having height of four to five meters making difficult to spread water on fire.
The fire personnel blocked the NH to facilitate to extinguish the fire ,however still fire is not came under control.
The commuters were furious as they were taken to task and hostage for no fault.
NH still blocked at Dhavlim by traffic Staff. Scrapyard is still on fire and May continue for another day. Fire personnel,police deployed at cite.Traffic towards Margao- Ponda diverted through Bethora – Borim bypass.
