PANAJI: Known for giving preference to migrants over Goans in his constituency Dabolim, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has called for extending priority to locals for employment.
Godinho was speaking at the inaugural function of the 10th Edition of the CII Goa Conference On Logistics with the theme ”Creating Synergies to Catalyze the Next Wave of Sustainable Growth of Logistics Sector in Goa, which was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry CII Logistics on Wednesday.
“The Government exhorted the stakeholders of the industrial sector to extend priority to local youth with regard to employment opportunities and not to spread the perception among local people that locals are prohibited in the industrial sector which does not do any good to anyone,” said Minister for Industries Shri Mauvin Godinho
The Minister further said usually it so happens that once an industrial project is conceived and locals are deprived of employment opportunities on the grounds of skill, is not fair.
“The stakeholders must consider locals for employment opportunities and work out mechanisms to make locals eligible and not allow to spread the perception that locals don’t stand a chance for gainful employment,” he said.
The Minister further said it was a common notion towards Goa that Goa is only for tourism where tourists come enjoy and go.
“We have got some good industries in Goa with our new industrial policy with regards to warehousing, logistics which will make a positive change hereafter in Goa,” he says.
He said the Government is already working towards strengthening the ecosystem for industry in the State. “With the launch of the portal online, things would be simplified for Ease of Doing Business. The government intends to make Goa a Logistic Hub. This could be an alternative option for industry and trade,” Godinho stated.
He appreciated CII for their endeavour in the sector of industry.
Minister for Environment, Law & Judiciary Aleixo Sequeira while addressing said, it is the States endeavour to strengthen port infrastructure, modernize shipping operations, and administration, and focus on propelling the maritime sector to new heights keeping in mind the goals of Sustainable Shipping with respect to Pollution, Safety of Navigation, Security and protection of the environment.
The Minister said that the vision of the Government is to foster a blue economy, promoting the development of Green ports, sustainable infrastructure Cruise Tourism etc. He appreciated the good work being undertaken by the CII.
Chairperson CII Western Region Smt Swati Salgaonkar in her address said that we gather at a crucial time when Goa, with its strategic location on the western coast of India, is on the verge of transforming itself into a leading logistics hub. Goa’s potential as a logistics powerhouse is immense, and with the right infrastructure, policy frameworks, and investments, we can position the state as a key gateway for trade, both domestic and international.
