MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao organized for the 2nd year, its Krishna Attire and Diya Decoration competitions at Lohia Maidan, Margao.
Following the last minute denial of permission to use Lohia Maidan premises last year SCM Convener Mr. Savio Coutinho took no chance of being a target of politics and hence decided to hold the competitions one day prior to Narkasur competition.
The beautifully decorated Lohia Maidan saw hundreds of diya’s lit on the compound wall and internal steps, besides dozens of colorful aakash Kandeels, which provided the festive look, bringing people in Diwali mood.
The effect of the lighting was experienced when there was power supply failure on two occasions during the program.
The beautiful ambiance drew attention of the people gathered for the competitions and the passers by, who applauded Coutinho for the novel concept of celebrating the festival of lights.
Chief guest for the occasion, senior journalist sushant Kunkolienkar was all praise for Savio Coutinho, who is known to be actively associated in organizing hindu religions festival’s like Sarvajanik Ganeshutsav and Diwali.
Kunkolienkar also recalled how he(Sushant) would be associated in Catholic church activities, as he tried to drive a point about the unique “DNA” of Goans which has helped us live in communal harmony.
Kunkolienkar assured that the media would always support such programs that foster the unity between different communities in Goa.
Manisha Usgaonkar while appreciating the efforts of the Shadow Council for Margao in highlighting the wrongs happening in Margao called upon Madgavkars to ignite the lord Krishna’s spirit within them and destroy the Narkasur that is destroying Margao.
Usgaonkar expressed regret that Narkasur was getting more prominence through competitions which offer lakhs of rupees as prize money, while Lord Krishna who gave us Diwali by destroying Narkasur is belittled due to commercialism.
Shadow Council for Margao members were also felicitated by its Convener Savio Coutinho for fearlessly standing united in fighting against the wrong doings by various government departments.
