PANAJI: Goa made a strong start to their four day Dr. Capt. K. Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament campaign, reaching 281 for seven in 90 overs against KSCA President’s XI on the opening day at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Goa opted to bat first and received a solid contribution from wicketkeeper batter Shivendra Bhujbhal. The right hander anchored the innings with a composed 106 off 212 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries and one six.
Opening batter Manthan Khutkar also played a crucial role, narrowly missing out on a century. The left hander scored 92 from 182 balls, including 11 fours and a six, as Goa built a strong foundation during the opening session.
Bhujbhal and Khutkar put together an important 137 run partnership for the second wicket, laying the platform for Goa to post a competitive total. After their dismissals, Snehal Kauthankar contributed 25 while Lalit Yadav made 19 as Goa continued to add runs.
At the close of play, Yash Kasvankar remained unbeaten on four, while Amulya Pandrekar was yet to open his account. Goa will look to build on their strong first innings total when play resumes.
For KSCA President’s XI, Mohsin Khan was the most successful bowler, finishing the day with two wickets for 46 runs. Venkatesh M., Shikhar Shetty, Akshat Prabhakar and Shubhang Hegde claimed one wicket each.
