Ahead of the Assembly election 2022, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Sawant has tried to convince the youth to vote in large numbers saying “some do not have any interest in voting.”
“In Goa, out of 11.40 Lakh voters around 26,239 voters are between the age gap of 18 – 19 years who are called as new voters and are in a way would be the deciding factors and thus are very important in the election,” he said.
He said the youth voting has to be 100 per cent, but according to a survey, it never happens just because some students don’t have an interest in voting.
“Same determination should be shown in voting, which is shown at the time of enrolment,” said Additional Chief Electoral Officer.
He spoke as the Chief Guest at the “Youth Voting Festival” held today at Manohar Parrikar Memorial Hall of Sanjay Centre for special education, Porvorim.
Additional Director, Directorate of Higher Education Dr Gervasio S.F.L. Mendes, Jt. Mamlatdar IV, Bardez & AERO 09 – Porvorim Assembly Constituency Mrs Varsha S. Parab, North Goa District Icon, Shri. John Aguiar, Principal of Vidhya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management Dr Bhushan Bhave, Member Secretary of Sanjay Centre for Special Education Mrs Nital Amonkar were also present on occasion.
The said Youth Voters Festival was organised by Chief Electoral Officer, Goa and ERO and AERO for 09 – Porvorim Assembly Constituency in collaboration with NSS unit of Vidhya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management and Sanjay Centre for special education, Porvorim.
Additional Director of DHE Dr Gervasio S.F.L. Mendes said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is working to ensure that the youth becomes part and parcel of this whole festival of democracy, and that is why throughout the country, Youth Voters Festivals are being held.
He also advised the youths to engage in ethical voting and not fall prey to various gifts, bribes, or fears while casting their vote.
The formal function began with the Watering of a potted plant and a welcome song by students of NSS unit Vidhya Prabodhini College. Principal of Vidhya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Bhushan Bhave gave a formal welcome speech.
On occasion, prizes were distributed for various competitions organised at the festival and Booth Level Officers were also felicitated for their commendable work.
Chairman of Sanjay Centre for special education, Guruprasad Pawaskar proposed the vote of thanks whereas Shamal Dessai NSS Convenor and Asst. Professor in Economics compered the function.
