PANAJI: The Goa Registration Department has appointed a three-member panel of Chartered Accountants to independently audit the affairs, accounts and financial records of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) after the High Court of Bombay at Goa and the Supreme Court declined to stay the audit order.
The panel comprises CA Shree Shashi Nair, CA Akshaya Prabhakar Raut, and CA Elce Francisco Vaz. The auditors have been directed to conduct a comprehensive examination of the association’s financial records and submit their report to the Inspector General of Societies within 90 days.
According to the order issued by the Inspector General of Societies, the audit will cover compliance with the Goa Co-operative Societies Act and relevant rules.
The auditors have also been authorised to inspect books of accounts, vouchers, registers, bank statements, records, assets and liabilities, investments, contracts, statutory documents and any other material necessary for the audit.
The order further states that the auditors may verify whether the association has maintained proper books of accounts, complied with statutory provisions, and utilised its funds in accordance with its objectives.
They have also been empowered to seek clarifications from office-bearers and employees of the association wherever required.
The audit follows directions issued under the Goa Co-operative Societies Act after legal challenges to the government’s audit order were dismissed by both the High Court and the Supreme Court, allowing the inspection process to proceed.
