MARGAO:A review meeting on monsoon preparedness for South Goa district was chaired by Egna Cleetus, Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, with senior officials in attendance, including Ramesh Gaonkar and Velton Tellis.
The meeting saw participation from all line departments, with a focus on strengthening readiness ahead of the monsoon season. Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) were instructed to deploy talathis across their jurisdictions to identify flood-prone locations and structurally unsafe buildings.
Departments were also directed to map and inspect nallas and drainage systems, with a deadline set for completing these checks within the current month. All talukas have been asked to submit detailed reports through proper channels to enable timely intervention.
Talathis have further been tasked with reviewing pending works in their respective areas and updating authorities on their status. To ensure close monitoring, the Collector stated that weekly review meetings will be held to track progress and address delays.
Additionally, all line departments have been instructed to complete pre-monsoon preparedness works by May 10 to minimise potential risks during the rainy season.
