Mapusa: Sporting Clube de Goa came all guns blazing as they demolished Mumbai City FC’s developmental side 4-0 in their opening match of the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday.
Biswa Darjee scored a fine brace while Rohan Rodrigues and Lloyd Cardozo netted one each.
Goa Professional League champions Sporting held the upper hand right from the start as they maintained superior ball possession. They surged ahead in the 11th minute when Lloyd Cardozo’s initial shot, after a pass from Alister Anthony, was blocked by the rival goalkeeper Harsh Kadam, but the rebound fell straight to Rohan Rodrigues, who headed in.
In the 36th minute, right-back Kunal Kundaikar moved swiftly on the flank and sent in a dangerous cross that sailed over the rival defence and found Lloyd, who gave the finishing touches.
Three minutes before the hour mark, Biswa curled in a beauty for the third goal.
Sporting continued their dominance in the second half and missed several chances.
However, in added time, Biswa secured his brace with a header after a cross from Rohan.
