PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today informed that the state government has given an compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to 59 families under the Goa State Interim Compensation Scheme who lost their family member in a fatal accident.
Godinho also informed that the time limit for families to apply for the Goa State Interim Compensation Scheme has been extended for one year.
“State government has given an compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to 59 families under the Goa State Interim Compensation Scheme who lost their family member in a fatal accident; Also time limit for families to apply for the Goa State Interim Compensation Scheme has been extended for one year,” said Godinho
Godinho also launched 16 transport services today in a bid to reduce burden of people who have to come all the way to office for various services.
“Applying for transport permits, goods permits along with another 14 services have been taken online. Now people will not need to come at transport office for services,” he said
Speaking on Digital meters for taxi’s, Godinho said that no extension will be given for taxi operators stating that there are directives from the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
“Already three extensions have been given for installation of taxi digital meters; resisting installation of digital meters or failure to charge by the meter may lead to cancellation of taxi permits,” Godinho added
Describing Goa’s taxi drivers as the “real ambassadors of the tourism industry”, Godinho said the installation of the metres are compulsory as per HC directives.
The transport minister further informed that he has cleared the file pertaining to implementation of new motor vehicle act.
“I have already cleared the file will come up cabinet meeting tomorrow. I have cleared the file with bare minimum fines; We cannot stop from implementing the new act otherwise we will pulled up by the central government,” Godinho added
The Goa government had decided to put on hold its decision to enforce new changes under the Motor Vehicle Act, entailing higher penalties for traffic offences, from May 1.
