PANAJI: Goa government today extended the statewide curfew effective in the state since May 10 by another eight days, till May 31.
Govt had imposed a 15-day statewide curfew from May 10 to May 23 in view of rise in covid cases and covid linked deaths in the state
“The curfew will continue in its present form and the current restrictions will continue; all essential commodity stores will be open from 7 am to 1 pm during the curfew period;” said CM Sawant
Stores selling essential items, grocery shops, liquor stores are allowed to stay open from 7 am to 1 pm during the period of the curfew, while medical stores and restaurant kitchens are allowed to function from 7 am to 7 pm during the curfew period.
Goa has the second-highest positivity rate in the country, after Lakshadweep. As per union health ministry data, Goa’s Covid positivity stands at 37%.
CM Sawant further said that the state government will float global tender for covid vaccines informed CM Pramod Sawant. He also said that the state is mulling the prospect of walk-in vaccinations.
“We cannot stop anyone including outsiders from registering on Cowin portal and taking vaccine in Goa,” he said.
Yesterday, Goa added 1,582 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the infection count to 1,41,567, an official from the state health department said.
The coastal state also reported 44 casualties on Thursday, alone. The state’s death toll has climbed to 2,272.
So far, Goa has conducted 7,73,765 Covid tests. The state registered 1,18,487 recovered cases and 20,808 active cases to date.
