PANAJI: Sugarcane farmers today announced that they have called off their ongoing agitation as CM Sawant and Dy CM Kavlekar have agreed to accept all their demands.
Sugarcane growers association members announced the decision while speaking to media persons after meeting the CM.
The farmers have been protesting for the past 5 days at Sanguem in support of their demands. CM has agreed to the demands of giving Rs 3,600 per tonne as compensation on standing sugarcane crop, considering highest tonnage of past 8 years by the farmer while deciding the compensation and making payment to the farmers by February end informed the farmer leaders.
“Government has informed us that a letter to this effect will be given to us within next 3-4 days time,” said Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar who was part of the farmer delegation. Based on CM’s assurance we are calling off the agitation, said farmers.
