PANAJI: The Special Investigation Team’s (SIT-Land Grab) request for the custody interrogation of Suleiman Siddiqui Khan, a “hardened criminal” suspected in land grab cases, was denied by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panaji, which is a blow to the police.
On December 13, 2024, Suleman fled from the SIT’s custody, prompting the SIT to attempt to resume interrogation. W
ithin nine days following the offense, the Goa Police found him in Kerala and took him back to Goa, where he was formally arrested. Before being transferred to judicial custody, he was first remanded to police prison in relation to the escape case that was filed at the Old Goa Police Station.
Through a court order, the SIT had stated its intention to request his custody for questioning in land grab cases. The JMFC’s ruling is probably going to be contested by the SIT.
