New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to urgently hear a petition seeking a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged Ram Temple donation scam, observing that there was no immediate urgency in the matter.
During the mentioning of the case, the bench questioned the need for urgent listing and remarked, “What’s the urgency?” The court further observed that “heavens are not going to fall” if the matter is heard after the court reopens following the vacation period.
The petition had sought directions for a time-bound, court-supervised investigation into alleged irregularities in the handling of temple donations. However, the apex court declined to grant immediate relief and directed that the matter be listed after the court resumes functioning.
Meanwhile, the parallel criminal investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Ram Temple donations continues to intensify, with police focusing on tracing the money trail linked to one of the main accused, Anukalp Mishra.
Investigators are examining whether assets allegedly acquired by Mishra in recent years were funded through diverted donation money. His bank records, investments, and spending patterns are under detailed scrutiny as part of the financial probe.
Police sources said Mishra, who was part of an outsourced team handling cash counting at the Ram Temple, is suspected of playing a key role in the alleged misappropriation. His brother-in-law, Lavkush Mishra, is also under investigation for alleged involvement, with claims that he was recruited into the same cash-counting team through Anukalp’s influence.
Both are among eight people arrested so far in the case. Officials have also visited Basawa village in Ayodhya district, where Anukalp’s residence reportedly appeared more affluent than surrounding houses, prompting further scrutiny of his financial background.
Investigators are additionally verifying reports of a recently built farmhouse, a ₹65 lakh property purchase in Ayodhya, and plans to acquire a Mahindra Scorpio SUV, as part of efforts to establish whether the accused possessed assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
