ANJUNA: For the first time in the 17-year history of Sunburn festival a stage was shut for excessive sound levels as finally a cop has shown a spine against the powerful orgnaisers.
The Sunburn festival’s main stage music was stopped on Thursday night at 9 pm by the enforcement committee, which is strict about following the noise limits set by the High Court of Bombay in Goa.
The music was being played above the permitted decibel level.
The action was started by a committee that included members of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, SDPO Jivba Dalvi, additional collector Pundalik Khorjuvekar, and North Goa.
With six stages, the festival kicked off on Thursday. It has been under fire in the past for allegedly breaking noise regulations.
However, the committee stopped the loud music at the main stage around 9 p.m., adhering to the noise limits set by the High Court, and the event came to an end at 10 p.m.
A noise limit of 65 to 75 decibels has been established for Sunburn by the High Court.
For the first time, sound level and intensity monitoring devices have been placed to keep an eye on things close to the event.
After reviewing the information provided by the devices, the team determined that the acceptable noise level had been exceeded. As a result, the committee made the organizers end one stage.
Dalvi stated, “Taking into account the High Court standards, the enforcement team closed the main stage as the organizers exceeded the allowable sound pressure levels.”
