CANACONA: Water Resources Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Thursday visited Chiplem in Poinguinim village after the successful completion of a long-pending water supply project that has brought piped water to households located on higher terrain.
A few months ago, residents of Chiplem had begun receiving water through a newly established storage tank. However, several houses situated on elevated terrain could not be connected due to technical challenges related to the area’s topography.
Responding to the issue, Tawadkar directed officials of the Water Supply Department to prepare a technical plan to overcome the elevation challenges. The department has now successfully extended the water supply network to these uphill households, bringing much-needed relief to the affected families.
According to sources in the Poinguinim Village Panchayat, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that no household in the panchayat is left without access to drinking water.
During his visit, Tawadkar interacted with residents, who expressed satisfaction over the completion of the project. He also assured villagers that a new road would be constructed once the required land No Objection Certificate (NOC) procedures are completed.
The Minister further reaffirmed his commitment to improving water availability across the Canacona constituency, with the aim of ensuring 10 to 12 hours of regular water supply even in difficult terrain, while also addressing issues such as waterlogging on roads.
