PANAJI: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department has granted approval to 16 proposals for conversion of land to the settlement zone under Section 39A of the Goa TCP Act, paving the way for changes in the Regional Plan 2021 and the Vasco Outline Development Plan (ODP) 2030.
The approved proposals cover a total of 1,68,317 sq m of land across villages including Guirdolim, Sancoale, Socorro, Corgao, Nerul, Xeldem, Mopa, Usgao, Morjim, Mandrem and Sancoale. Of this, the largest portion — 1,54,792 sq m (around 1.5 lakh sq m) — is located at Sancoale and is owned by Zuari Industries Ltd.
The department has invited suggestions and objections within 30 days of the public notice. After this period, the proposals will be placed before the TCP Board for its final decision.
In addition, the TCP Department has accorded final approval for the conversion of four land parcels covering a total of 43,245 sq m to settlement zone in Oxel, Nachinola and Usgao under Section 39A. The largest of these, measuring 40,660 sq m at Oxel, belongs to Ceu Na Terra Por LLP.
Officials clarified that all such land use changes in the Regional Plan and Outline Development Plan will remain subject to the outcome of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Writ Petition currently pending before the High Court.
