Aam Aadmi Party asked the government to clarify as to why it had acted in defiance of the MHA order of 30th June and Ministry of HRD letter of 1st July’20 that directed states to allow teachers to work from home.
AAP Convenor Elvis Gomes said that all along, the government was showing heavy dependence on the central government for guidance on lockdown matters but had disregarded the centre’s order on educational institutions that called for safety of teachers.
He said that instead of coming out with guidelines to assist teachers to work from home, the education department had forced teachers to attend schools only to be greeted by walls of classrooms that had no students.
“Government agrees to MLAs demand to reduce a month’s budget session to one day fearing Covid infection but the same government defies its own central government orders when it comes to teachers’ safety which could compromise students’ safety.
They should realise that teachers’ lives matter too” said Gomes demanding that teachers should be allowed to function from home instead of exposing them to risk.
